September 22, 2006: The Brantley Bulldogs, Class 1A number one rated team in Alabama by the ASWA, gained their 4th win of the 2006 season with a convincing 41-0 win over the Ariton Purple Cats Friday night in Ariton. The win was the 4th shutout of the young season for the defensive minded Bulldogs. They have yet to give up a score. In the first half, the Bulldogs sputtered but dominated action as they built a 14-0 lead. Frustrated by numerous penalties that negated two touchdowns, the Bulldogs used the calls against them to motivate their play as they racked up 27 points in the second half for the Region 2 win. Quarterback Jonathan Helms directed the spirited effort as offensive linemen Corey Morgan, Westley Spivey, Jarod Hall, Chase Haws, Wesley Hall, and split end Austin Brook paved the way with gapping holes all night. Chris Booker paced the high-scoring Dawgs with 196 yards on 19 carries with touchdown runs of 35 and 19 yards. James Pittman had two touchdown runs of 45 and 35 yards. Jeffery Daniels scored from 9 yards out, and Anthony Gulley added one from 6 yards out. Marquis Owens had 6 of 7 PATs. Defensively the Bulldogs were outstanding with Jeffrey Daniels and Dexter Daniels setting the pace. Landon Morgan, Channing Booker, Terrell Burnett, Corey Latham, Jon Tyson, Justin Wright, Thad Frazier, Roy L Knighten, Rick Wiley, and Marquis Owens shared in the defensive effort. Brantley travels to Highland Home next Friday night in a big Crenshaw County matchup. Kick-off set for 7:00 pm. |
